PLOYS Reaches a Major Milestone: Over 2 Tonnes of Pool Inflatables Recycled

At PLOYS, every bag tells a story — and now, that story just got a whole lot bigger.
We’re incredibly proud to announce that we have officially recycled and upcycled over 2 tonnes of discarded pool inflatables into new, useful and beautiful products.
That’s more than 2,000 kilograms of PVC saved from landfill and waterways
— transformed instead into long-lasting, waterproof bags, pouches and accessories that continue to circulate through everyday life.
Why recycling of Pool Inflatables Matters
Pool inflatables are one of the most overlooked plastic waste streams.
They’re colourful, fun and everywhere — yet when they puncture or fade, often already after one season, most end up in landfill or floating in our oceans. Made from durable PVC, they don’t break down easily and can remain in the environment for hundreds of years.
At PLOYS, we saw this as an opportunity rather than only seeing a problem.
By collecting, cleaning and carefully cutting up discarded inflatables, followed by sewing them into new bags and purses, we give them a second life as functional, stylish accessories — proving that waste is only waste if we let it be.
From Float to Forever
Each PLOYS product begins its journey as a once-loved pool float. After being diverted from disposal, every inflatable is:
- Thoroughly cleaned
- Hand-cut and sorted by colour and material
- Designed into one-of-a-kind waterproof accessories
- Sewn into products made to last for years
No two PLOYS pieces are ever the same — just like the floats they came from.
Reaching the 2-tonne milestone means thousands of individual inflatables have been kept out of landfill and instead turned into bags that travel the world with you — to the beach, the pool, the markets and beyond.
Powered by People
This achievement wouldn’t be possible without our amazing community.
From customers who donate their broken inflatables, to Carin our lead designer and sewer, to our team of two eco-mums who carefully bring each product to life, to community groups who host our recycle bins, to everyone who chooses a PLOYS bag over something newly made — you are part of this impact.
Every time you carry a PLOYS wet bag, pouch or tote, you’re actively supporting:
- Plastic waste reduction
- Circular design
- Reduce the need of new plastics being made
- Local, small-scale manufacturing
- A cleaner ocean and planet
What 2 Tonnes Really Means
Recycling 2 tonnes of PVC means:
- Thousands of bulky items diverted from landfill
- Less plastic leaking into marine ecosystems
- Less demand for new virgin plastic production
- More visibility for creative, real-world solutions to plastic pollution
And this is just the beginning.
Looking Ahead
Our goal has always been simple:
Keep as much plastic as possible in use and out of the environment.
With every float rescued and every bag made, we move one step closer to a more circular future — where waste becomes resource, and design becomes a force for good.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
Here’s to the next tonne
